How to Pack for the Movers

By Kyle Haley Youve chosen a new home, selected a mover, and now comes the task of packing for the move. There are 3 important things you should remember that will save you a lot of time and frustration later: Collect all the materials (boxes, tape, paper) youll need to pack. Dont put packing off until the last minute. Stay organized! Heres a list of the materials youll need to pack efficiently: Paper for wrapping your items: Many people collect old newspapers and use them. Just remember that the news ink never dries and will come off on your belongings. If you want to avoid the need to wash everything when you arrive, you can purchase packing paper from your mover. Boxes: You can collect boxes from your local supermarket and other businesses. Select strong boxes in good condition and make sure they have covers. Divided boxes like liquor boxes are great for glasses and stemware. Your mover can also provide you with boxes especially made for moving. However, these boxes are expensive and you may want to purchase only those which are usually necessary like wardrobes for hanging clothes, mattress cartons, and cartons for large pictures, mirrors and table lamps. Sealing Tape – Use plastic tape thats 1-2 wide Magic Marker to mark boxes for contents and special instructions like fragile, this side up, etc. Now that you have all your materials, youre ready to start packing! Start as far ahead of time as you can. Waiting until the last minute will create a nightmare you dont want to experience! If you begin early you can pack a few boxes a day and have everything completed without stressing yourself unnecessarily. Its really important that you keep your packing organized; it will save a lot of confusion later. Its best to pack a room at a time so that you can keep everything thing together that belongs together. Start in areas containing articles that arent used frequently such as your attic, basement, garage, etc. You can leave an extra box to hold items that cant be packed early. Packing Up the Kitchen The hardest room to pack is probably the kitchen so lets discuss that in detail. Remember when youre packing fragile items to pad the bottom of the box with several sheets of paper. Place the heaviest items on the bottom of the box and the more delicate things on top. When you pack flatware like plates, saucers, etc., wrap each item separately and then combine in groups of three. Rewrap that group in more paper and seal with the plastic tape. Each group will then be better protected. Stand them on end in the box. You can nest glasses and cups 3 or 4 together and separate with small sheets of paper. Its best to pack them in divided containers if you have them. If the box isnt full to the top, stuff with additional paper. If you dont have divided containers, you can place them in other boxes where you have empty space; just be sure to fit them in toward the top of the box so they arent crushed. Dont nest Goblets and stemware, wrap them individually. Try to keep small kitchen appliances like the toaster, crock pot, etc., all together rather than mixing them with other items. Wrap them individually with 2 or 3 sheets of paper and wad up paper to fill any empty space. However, if you have a lot of extra room you can add some pots and pans. You can nest pots, pans and large bowls in groups of 3 with a couple sheets of paper between each of them. When you pack boxed foods such as cereal and rice, be sure to seal the tops with plastic tape. (Remember to do this for salt and pepper shakers also!) If your things are going be stored for very long, you may want to discard these items to avoid rodents or insects. You can pack filled canisters as long as they are individually wrapped and the tops are sealed with plastic tape. Finally, here are some miscellaneous tips to remember: Dont pack anything thats flammable, combustive or explosive. This includes items like aerosol spray cans, gasoline, and paint thinners. Empty all drawers. Pack heavy items like books and canned goods in smaller boxes. Pack bulky and lightweight items like toys, blankets, and pillows in large boxes. You dont need to wrap toys, books and shoes individually. Stand books and records on end. It isnt as hard as it sounds, but it you dont want to deal with packing, your moving company will be happy to pack for you ~ of course, that service comes with a very hefty price tag! Happy Moving! What’s So Special About The Objective Statement?

By Carla Vaughan Well, if you want to make sure a prospective employer reads your resume, the objective statement can be more than special: It can be critical. If you are in the market for a new computer and a salesperson asks you what features you are specifically looking for, you may spout off a few details, such as: 512KB RAM, 160 GB hard drive, flat panel monitor, wireless optical mouse or any of a dozen other desired features. The salesperson is much better equipped to find a computer that matches your description if you provide the right kind of information. The same is true of an objective statement. If you dont use one, an employer might not be able to figure out what type of position you are seeking. Do not assume your resume is clear and to the point. Do not assume your cover letter will be able to convey everything, either. The cover letter might not even get read. Even if it does get read, it could very easily get separated from your resume. If that happens, the employer has no lead-in to your resume and it has to stand alone. It is for this reason that the objective statement becomes critical. Are you interested in getting hired for a specific position or are you ok with interviewing for any position an employer has available? Most people are relatively specific about the kind of work they want to do. You probably are, too. That means the employer needs some direction from you. The objective statement tells the employer what you are interested in. A well written objective statement does it in a way that lets the employer know what you can do for them, too. What can an objective statement do for you? It can: Arouse interest in the rest of the resume Inject energy and enthusiasm Express your desire to contribute to the organization Articulate your knowledge of one or more aspects of the company Use the objective statement to garner interest in the rest of your resume. Be specific and target every word to the position desired and the employers needs. Employers are not mind readers. They need assistance in making sure your resume is read by the right people for the right job. Your willingness to clearly identify the position you are seeking may make the difference in you getting a phone call for an interview, or your personal history being filed away permanently. Do it right – and reap the rewards. ~Carla Vaughan Other articles on Resume-Writing can be found at: http://www.professional-resume-example.com/resume-related-articles.html Carla Vaughan is the owner of http://www.Professional-Resume-Example.com, a web site devoted to assisting candidates in the job-search process. In a Ribbon Rut? Other Great Ideas for Gift Wrapping

By Lisa Koosis Zipzipzip Scissors in hand, you zip through strand after strand of brightly-colored curling ribbon, teasing it into just-right twists, making the final touches on your gift-wrapping. After all, once upon a time, no present was complete without glossy wrapping-paper and curling ribbon, or maybe a bow, the kind that you have to struggle to peel from the little cardboard base. Gone are those days. Today, a gift wrapper has many choices. One attractive way to finish off a gift is with tulle. It’s conveniently sold by the spool, and you can usually find it in the “wedding favors and crafts” aisle of most major craft stores. It’s also often sold at party-supply retailers. Tulle is not just for weddings either. It comes in quite a selection of colors, from pastel to metallic. It’s also soft and light enough to combine in various color combinations. Tulle makes a great choice for a baby gift or a bridal gift. Little girls also love presents wrapped in drapes of the soft netting. Another great choice is raffia. A natural, twine-like material, it’s both a festive and environmentally-conscious choice. It, too, comes in an array of colors, from the natural oatmeal color to deepest forest green. It makes a great tie for a man’s gift, by far more masculine than curling ribbon and bows. Satin ribbon is another beautiful choice for wrapping gifts. Both fabric and craft shops tend to have ribbons in every color of the rainbow, including themed ribbons for babies, weddings, holidays and seasons. One plus to purchasing satin ribbon is that it’s often sturdy enough to be reused by the recipient. Lace is a lesser-thought-of wrapping idea, but many are soft enough to make a lovely addition to a gift, and lace doesn’t just come in white anymore. You can purchase lace in anything from cream color to pastel pink. Lace makes a perfect addition to a wedding gift. Even yarns these days can be used in wrapping packages. These aren’t the yarns your grandmother knitted with either. Craft stores these days have aisles and aisles of yarns. There are fuzzy yarns and yarns that have a rainbow of colors all in one skein. Particularly for smaller gifts, they make an ideal alternative to curling ribbon. So if you’re in a ribbon rut or just plain bored with bows, be adventurous, and don’t be afraid to use your imagination. There are no rights and wrongs in gift-wrapping. It’s all about what looks good. Lisa is an author on http://www.Writing.Com/ which is a site for Writers. Discover Guilt-Free Eating: Learn Physical Hunger & Fullness

By Gillian Hood-Gabrielson Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. Do this consistently and your body will return to its natural weight and stay there. Seems simple enough, right? But do you know when you are actually physically hungry? What about full? The Challenge Long term success with maintaining your bodys ideal weight comes from listening and trusting what the body needs and wants. It can be hard to determine if your hunger is caused by your stomach, or by your brain. We often think we are hungry when we are actually stressed, tired, angry or various other emotions. When you were an infant you knew hunger and fullness. You screamed when you were hungry. After you ate what you needed, you stopped. You didnt finish the bottle or clean your plate if you were full, you just stopped. As you got older, you learned that you couldnt trust your body to tell you when to start and stop eating. Suddenly you were supposed to eat because its dinner time or to be polite to a host. You may have heard, You cant be hungry, its almost dinner time, and if you told your parents you were full after eating part of your dinner, you were lectured about the starving children in China. And of course there was no desert if you didnt finish your dinner! You then became a member of the clean your plate club. The Solution Relearning physical hunger and fullness will help you stop metabolism-lowering habits like skipping breakfast or starving yourself after overeating. It will also help you keep your blood sugar stable and keep you from getting too hungry. You wont always be able to tell if you are physically hungry. It takes time to relearn what this feels like. Start by asking yourself, Am I hungry? If you think you are, take a look at how long it has been since you last ate and what you ate. Has it been a few hours? Did you eat enough to last a few hours? If its only been an hour since you last ate, and you ate a substantial amount of food, it is fair to think the hunger may be caused by something other than physical need. Tune it to what is going on around you. Check out your feelings. What do you need besides food a nap, a walk or a good cry? Be sure to eat food that you enjoy when you are hungry. Eating foods you dont like (because they are good for you, for instance) is just another form of deprivation. Keep in mind if you are no longer depriving yourself you can stop eating when you are full or satisfied, because you know you can eat again when you are hungry. There is no longer a need to diet and deprive yourself so there is no more last supper mentality where you have to keep on eating. If you just need a simple bistro table and two chairs, one hundred dollars may be enough. Cheap but very durable sets like these are usually made of quality cast aluminum, and are typically enforced with rust-resistant coating. You can either buy them assembled, or assemble them yourself. Assembly will take about half an hour, and can be fun of you are good with your hands. Sets like these can go for $150 during peak seasons (spring and summer), so be sure to order during off-season months. You can even get this for less than a hundred dollars, if you are lucky. If you have a bigger budget and a bigger space, then invest in patio sets that are made of stylish all-weather woven wicker resin and heavy-duty steel frame with protective finish. Most of the sets in this price range include two lounge chairs (typically cushioned), a love seat, and a coffee table (usually tempered glass-top that is resistant to scratches). The cushion is usually covered with easy-care fabric, and is easily replaceable. Add a few more hundreds of dollars and you can buy patio sets complete with an umbrella and an umbrella base. Most sets in this price range are made of heavy-duty steel frame construction (usually coated with protective power finish) and have at least six sling-swiveling bar stools and a fashionable glass-top table. Age Discrimination In Employment Act

By Kum Martin Discrimination is any actions that violate Civil Rights Act on race, sex, religion, national origins, and age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) prohibits discrimination against any person 40 years old and over. However, if you are public safety employees and tenured college employees, you may be subject to forced retirement. Furthermore, if you are an employee in executive positions at age 65, you may be forced retirement with proper retirement benefits. If your company provides a good retirement plan, it will not go against Age Discrimination in Employment Act. A bad retirement plan will try to find a loophole. So you should read your retirement plan carefully. If you dont understand anything, you should clarify it with your lawyer. You dont want to find out later, when it is too late. In some cases, employers may try to say that nature of a job requires age limitations on employees. You should know that Age Discrimination in Employment Act does not have a lot of flexibility in this interpretation. Employers usually use individual testing to prove job fitness on a case by case basis. Age Discrimination in Employment Act does not apply to federal regulation or stature. So if you are airline pilots, you are mandated to retire at age 60. Furthermore, Age Discrimination in Employment Act does not protect apprenticeships and similar training programs for the youth. 5 Powerful Ways to Fight Bipolar Disorder in Children Perhaps Your Child!

By Merri Ellen Giesbrecht 1. Get rid of the TV and video games. What? You may gasp, but the amount of stuff that kids see these days only damages their development of proper thinking such as assessing reality, problem solving, etc. We are convinced that bipolar disorder in children can be aggravated by TV and video game images. You most likely heard about this study already on TV affecting a childs sleep functioning. Once we got rid of these things, yes, we got objections, but a few days later the kids were playing in the backyard throwing a ball around laughing! What a concept! This makes for happier parents too! If you cant eliminate TV and video games completely, then maximize their time to an hour a day. Then instead, teach them the importance of doing good things for others and focus on that by verbally praising them. Show them what is important to enjoy life hard work and loving others instead of seeking to be entertained. 2. Give your kids Omega 3 Supplements. By now, you should be aware of the damage of our modern diet and the lack of Omega 3s. If not, you will enjoy our article on Dr. Andrew Stoll curing bipolar patients with Omega 3s. Bipolar disorder in children can be effectively handled with a quality Omega 3 Supplement. 3. Feed your kids natural foods first. Instead of going for a quick fix meal with tons of preservatives, aim for natural meals. There is so much sugar and salt and other damaging ingredients in our foods today that we are damaging our bodies. (If you owned a Porsche, would you give it recycled oil or the best of the best? Same with our bodies they are fabulous machines that wont purr if we feed them junk.) 4. Exercise with your kids! Exercise is the most underrated yet successful treatment for bipolar disorder in children. The British Journal of Sports Medicine published results that 30 minutes a day of exercise was a more effective method of fighting major depression than drugs. Its important to teach your kids the necessity of exercise for all aspects of health. Whatever exercise you choose, your child will love the fun and youll love a happier child and a happier you too! ;) 5. Find a great counsellor for your child. Bipolar disorder in children can be caused by traumatic events events that your child may find difficult to speak with you about. Dont feel helpless and dont insist on wanting to be the one your child talks to. The important thing is that they can share with someone. Events such as the early loss of a parent, parental depression, incest, or abuse can cause bipolar disorder in children. You may want to have your childs school guidance counsellor meet with him or recommend someone else for your child. Just make the call. “We hope this bipolar disorder in children information will help you too!” Warmest regards, Merri Ellen is a former depression sufferer who has a mission to share the latest research on curing depression. Just recently, she has contributed to the writing of a special report on 6 Ingredients to Cure Depression which is a free report! Treatment – Pharmaceutical or Holistic?

By Patricia Howitt All treatment based on pharmaceutical products proceeds from the study and treatment of symptoms, categorised pretty much in isolation as evidence of separate “diseases”. Western medicine has built a vast repertory of observed symptoms, and a vast array of unnatural products tailored by chemical companies to prevent these symptoms from manifesting. We even have comparatively simple conditions, like heartburn, being labelled as “diseases” to bring them within the scope of the prescription drugs industry. The word cure is a misnomer when applied to drugs and disease. Drugs suppress symptoms, which are the body’s way of ridding itself of underlying illness. This drives the problem deeper into the tissues for the cells to cope with in some other way, which leads to big trouble at a later date. Drugs may offer a “quick fix”, but the price paid in side effects and long-term illness is enormous, affecting both quality and length of life. Published causes of death statistics are many and varied. You will never find among them a figure for the thousands of people whose lifespan and quality of life are slowly destroyed by pharmaceutical drugs. When their lives end, cause of death is simply recorded as the disease they were being treated for, or one of its side effects. What Holistic Really Means While modern western medicine excels at treating emergencies and injury, it has lost the plot completely when it comes to treating illness and disease. All disease manifestations are the result of the same basic “dis-ease” condition of the body. In reality, before the rise of drugs, many natural treatments were used successfully for centuries to set the body’s chemistry to rights. These methods were intended to restore the bodys correct pH, supply the nutrients required to correct the underlying imbalance in the body tissues, return the body to proper health, and so enable it to deal with whatever symptoms were present. The “diseases” mindset obscures the fact that all symptoms are manifestations of an underlying defective condition of the whole body caused by – Inadequate nutrition resulting in a weakened body structure (at both tissue and cellular levels) and decreased immune function; and External factors such as toxins and stress. It is true that the body has countless ways of manifesting sickness. The reason diseases seem so many and varied is because – Each body breaks down at its weakest link – and in each individual that weakest link will be determined by heredity (genetic factors) and nutrition (eating habits); Each individual experiences toxins or stresses peculiar to his or her own lifestyle (e.g. cigarette smoke, asbestos fibers, timber treatment chemicals or whatever). These toxins and stresses can produce different effects on the system. When one realises that our categorized diseases are simply varied manifestations of an imbalance in the body chemistry, it becomes easier to understand what holistic medicine and treatment is about. Body pH and Organic Nutrients Body pH is the indicator of the acid-alkaline condition of the blood. It is the most important single factor to be corrected before healing can proceed. This can be achieved in a number of ways, but primarily by avoiding acid-producing foods, correcting mineral deficiencies, and supplying the correct balance of healthy foods. The following foods are the worst culprits in producing acid reactions in the body and are the cause of much illness and disease in the western world: white flour, white sugar, common salt, soft drinks, artificial colorings and flavourings, over-consumption of red meat and animal fats, hydrogenated fats, deep-fried fats, alcohol, and cigarette smoking. Consider the average western diet and you will realise why illness and disease are rampant killers in the west, where many people’s daily food consumption comprises almost exclusively the above products. Consider also that in many third-world countries the introduction of the western diet has been followed by a rising incidence of western disease. Rebuilding and Healing The holistic approach to healing starts by avoiding all foods that produce acid conditions in the body. Many of these foods are so lacking in nutritive value that they deplete the bodys vitamins, minerals and enzymes. The body has to dig into its own store to find the elements necessary for digestion, and very often, because of the poor state of our food today, that store has reached rock bottom. In supplying what our bodies really need for the rebuilding and healing processes, the prime consideration is usability. Minerals are the bodys ground-floor building blocks and recent research now shows that mineral supplements MUST be supplied in a form the body can utilise. This is not found in pulverized rock, or in colloidal minerals. In both of these, the particle size is simply too large for our cells to utilise efficiently. The maximum our cells can derive from these sources is about 3%. The unused residue of these minerals is dumped somewhere in the system, where it adds to the burden the body is already carrying. What our cells really need is organic (i.e. angstrom sized) minerals – because these are what the body was designed to use. The organic, angstrom particle size is actually 10,000 times smaller than a micron. Minerals in plants and fruits are naturally angstrom sized, and this is the reason why so many of today’s natural plant formulations are helping people with health problems. You will notice that all of these natural products have one element in common they are not the end product of our modern agricultural systems. This is because the depleted nature of our agricultural soils can no longer provide the minerals and trace minerals our bodies need in the quality and proportions they were designed for. Without a single exception, all of these new products are derived either from the sea, or from virgin soils that still retain their life-giving nutrients. This is a huge lesson that we need to learn, and learn quickly. Unnatural chemicals are destroying our world, and they are destroying us. Prepaid Cell Phones

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Marcus_Peterson]Marcus Peterson Cellular phones have become a necessity in this fast-paced world. They allow on-the-go people to be connected and reachable. There was a time that only those who had a steady source of high income could afford cellular phones. Children having cellular phones was unthinkable. Yet things do change. These days, the services that cellular phone service providers offer vary. Although there are still those who prefer the security of a post paid cellular phone subscription, a lot have also patronized prepaid cell phones. Prepaid cell phones offer pay-as-you-go policies that do not entail signing contracts with the service provider. Prepaid cell phones offer almost the same services as monthly accounts. Consumers do not need to be tied down to a given carrier. The policy also allows consumers to control their bills based on their budget and usage. Prepaid Cell Phones and You: Why They Work Do you rarely use your cell phone? Do you usually limit your cell phone usage and really just need a phone strictly for emergencies? Are you a parent who wants to budget the way your children use their cell phones? Do you have issues about signing contracts and being tied to a particular service company? Do you have credit issues? If you answer yes to most, if not all these questions, then prepaid cell phones might just be the answer you are looking for in terms of cell phone use. Since prepaid cell phones are prepaid, there are no monthly bills to worry about. Also, getting one does not require all the hassles that are required when applying for a post-paid plan. You only pay for the services which you use monthly and nothing more. Prepaid cell phone plans also include the same services as post-paid plans offer such as local and long distance calls, roaming and international call capabilities, caller ID, voice mail, call waiting, three-way calling and even text messaging. The Cons of Prepaid Cell Phones The services that prepaid cell phone credits can expire, depending on how long you hold on to the credits without using them. Cheaper credits expire sooner than more expensive credits. You automatically lose your credits if unused within the specified period. Also at 2530 cents a minute, they cost more per call than calls placed using most monthly billing plans. Losing Weight is All About What You Gain

By Jim O’Neill Many people have thought about losing weight over the years, but often seem to fall short of an actual attempt to do it. The reason why so many people think about it so much is because deep down, they know that having that extra poundage is not at all good for them. The problem is, just knowing that being overweight is bad is not enough to really push many people to do something about it. Much like wanting to quit smoking, knowing it is bad for you don’t induce people to quit doing it. However, if you were to find some really good reasons to quit smoking, like your doctor told you if you don’t quit, you will lose a lung next year, that might make you act and just do it. Well, losing weight is just like quitting smoking, the more good reasons you have to do it, the more likely you are to act on it and make it happen. If you have something driving your motivation aside from just knowing it is bad for you, you are also more likely to maintain your weight loss goal once you reach it. First and foremost, losing weight means getting healthier. When you lose those extra pounds you greatly reduce the risk or heart disease, stroke, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and joint stress, all conditions associated with being overweight. When you reduce these risks, it means you can have a much better chance of being around to see your children grow up and being around to enjoy your grandchildren. That alone is reason enough to get that weight down. Another reason you might want to consider for losing weight is that you will feel better. As you begin to lose some of those extra pounds, you will start to notice your energy levels increasing. Being overweight by 20 pounds is like putting a 20 pound sack of potatoes on your shoulders all day. Extra body fat is nothing more than an extra burden to carry around with you everyday, so the extra weight drains your energy. For this reason, overweight people tend to be less active and this promotes more fat to collect up on them. As this continues, they become even less active and so this becomes a vicious cycle leading to obesity. As a nice little side benefit, losing weight will make you look better, and who doesn’t want to look better? Each and every one of us has a vision of what we want to look like. Most people are not completely satisfied with the way they look. They will always find something they don’t like about themselves and wish they could change and for people who are overweight; this can be a great motivator to lose weight. A recent study done concluded that as early as age 5, girls who had higher body weights had lower self esteem than girls with normal body weight. When a person loses weight, what are almost always the responses of other people who know that person? You hear things like; you look good; you’ve lost weight haven’t you? And think about how you would feel when you’ve lost enough weight to be able to fit into that dress or that pair of pants you wore back in high school. Now keep in mind, looking better is a great reason to lose weight but it should not be the only one. When you have at least a few good, valid reasons to want to lose weight, it will be a lot easier to motivate yourself to get started and stay with it.
